PhiMatrix upgraded to HTTPS security standards
On February 20, 2022, an update was released for all versions of PhiMatrix to provide enhanced security in online activation processes with the licensing server. Access will now use HTTPS security rather than the older HTTP protocol.
Download and install the latest versions of PhiMatrix
PhiMatrix users should download and install the latest version of any of PhiMatrix software products that they have licensed:
PhiMatrix Golden Ratio Design for Windows
PhiMatrix Golden Ratio Design for macOS
PhiMatrix 1.618 Professional for Windows
PhiMatrix 1.618 Professional for mac OS
Technically, it’s not necessary to uninstall old versions of PhiMatrix because this update will install to a new folder. It’s still a good idea, however, as the old versions will not successfully activate licenses and you’ll want to be sure that any desktop or Start menu icons properly link to the new versions of PhiMatrix.
How to check which version of PhiMatrix you have.
Older versions of PhiMatrix will now generate the error message “Connection to the server failed”, so this indicates that the updated version is required. You can check your version by using the Help – About menu option. It should show the 2022 date in the line below the title and a copyright notice through 2022.
Activate using the License – Activate menu option
Once you download the new versions of PhiMatrix Design and/or Pro, use the License – Activate menu option to enter your license code. The updated versions of PhiMatrix will work with your existing license codes. If your current license code may automatically appears in the Activate window, just accept it and press enter.
Your saved settings (.mtx) files will still work
Any PhiMatrix grid settings that you have saved as .mtx files will also function as they did before installing the update.
Requesting your support
Although payment isn’t mandatory for your update to work, I’m asking that you make a payment in one of two ways below to help me cover the costs of developing it for you.
These new HTTPS versions had a relatively high cost, with updates or renewals required on at least ten different platforms or services: Development platform, plugins, licensing, e-commerce, Apple Developer subscription, XCode, digital certifications, distribution wrapper, website updates, new graphics, a new Mac with Catalina and more. I also had to pay for outside consulting help on several occasions.
Most software companies require payment for major upgrades, some up to the full price of the original software if you did not purchase within the last year or two. Others, such as Adobe, have gone to charging annual subscription fees just to use their software, which I know most people do not like.
As an independent developer, I want to be fair to you, but am finding that a one-time purchase fee for PhiMatrix for the customer with support costs that go on for many years for me isn’t economically viable. Accordingly I’d like to ask you to help me in one of two ways for continuing to make PhiMatrix available to you, and to be able to provide ongoing support.
